A documentary on the life and work of post punk legend Mark Stewart is currently in post production.
Mark Stewart was the band leader and singer of seminal Bristol post punk icons THE POP GROUP (78-80). After disbanding in the early 80s, a number of new and by now equally legendary bands like Rip, Rig & Panic, Pig Pag or Maximum Joy rose from their ashes.
Mark Stewart decided to pursue a solo career as Mark Stewart & the Maffia, supported by the Sugarhill Gang / Grandmaster Flash backing band. Calling the musicians around Mark Stewart an all-star ensemble would not be exaggerating – the Maffia line-up features Doug Wimbish, Skip McDonald, legendary producer and ON-U Sound mastermind Adrian Sherwood as well as exceptional drummer Keith LeBlanc.
The documentary itself contains several interviews, live recordings, archive material as well as background information on THE POP GROUP and the Bristol music scene.
Prospective date of completion is Spring 2006.
